Sefton’s hopes of Lancashire Plate glory ended in the second round on Sunday when they were ceremoniously bundled out by one of the competition favorites.

Despite the efforts of the workaholic back row ace Dave Neary and an all-round hard working performance, Sefton were always struggling and had to settle for a Robin Earwaker penalty as their only reward

Top class performances by man of the match Richard Carter, Paul Walker and Steve Smith couldn’t save Sefton from defeat despite twice having the lead.

Tries by Paul Walker, Wayne Osborne on his debut and Steve Teale, and two conversions by Paul Evangelides provided Sefton’s points.

Shell replied with tries by Paul Watkinson(2), Mark Davis and Kevin Richardson with Kevin Mason landing a conversion and a penalty.
