Congleton 32 Sefton 14

Sefton RUFC left their recovery too late at the weekend as they suffered a reverse at the hands of Congleton. Despite outscoring their hosts 14 points to seven in the second half, a poor first period condemned them to defeat.

The West Derby based club trailed 25-0 at the break after being overpowered by their opponents. And it was only in the last twenty minutes that they found their scoring touch.

The revival coincided with the arrival of substitute fly-half Charlie Breen who started the Sefton scoring with a try which was converted by Paul Evangelides. Another try by skipper Greame Jones was again converted by Evangelides but Sefton had left it too late and finished the match defeated by 32-14.

It leaves the First XV in a tricky position in the South Lancs and Cheshire League Division Two.

They have not had a great season so far and they are looking to consolidate their mid table position.
