Sefton had confidently pencilled this in as a likely away win, but they were always second best to their Cheshire/Lancashire South League rivals.

Their only consolation was a fine try by Paul McKibbin who was playing his first senior game of the season.

Sefton 9 Collegiate 7

Fly-Half Phil Evans celebrated his 18th birthday 24 hours early with an outstanding debut for Sefton besides kicking a vital penalty. Old hand Paul Evangelides also played an important role with two penalties in Sefton’s well deserved victory.

Dave Neary and Eddie Jones were the stars for Sefton while try scorer Neil McBride and Paul Walsh who added the conversion, were tops for Collegiate.
