IF centre Mike Hanlon makes the grade in Sefton’s first team he reckons his early days as a wrestler will have helped.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Cheshire/South Lancashire Third Division side this season, said: "I enjoyed my time as a wrestler. It was Olympic-style wrestling —nothing to do with the Olympic Games however. Then I had knee ligament problems and had to pack it in.

"But I reckon it will have helped my rugby career because it’s made me physically stronger and should help me get over the knocks and bumps more easily."
