Sefton beat Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three front runners Newton-Le-Willows in their most physical game of the season. Wayne Osborne triumphed with a hat-trick of tries with brother Philip also crossing.

Phil Evans added a conversion and two penalties to his try.

Sefton hit their highest ever score as they overran plucky Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three rivals St Marys.

Wayne Osborne (4), Brian Gardner (2), Phil Evans (2), Gareth Rogerson, Dave Edwards, Mark Carruthers, John Stitt and Phil Osborne scored the tries with Evans adding nine conversions for a personal haul of 26 points.

Sefton made it through to the Lancashire Plate Semi-Final thanks to a Phil Evans penalty.

Stand-off Wayne Osborne was the main architect of this win which keeps Sefton in the top half of Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three.

They were trailing by 5 points at the interval, but finished with tries by Jamie Luck, Phil Osborne and Wayne Osborne with Phil Evans adding two conversions.

Prenton replied with tries by Chris Humphreys and Craig Elkerton while the outstanding Gareth Knapman added both conversions and a penalty.

Sefton will quickly want to forget this mauling despite the efforts of skipper Andy Walsh and Andy Sheehan.

Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three promotion hopefuls Anvils scored tries through Richard Newton, Geoff Huxley and Brendan O'Keefe with Steve Raffles tacking on three conversions and five penalties.

Fijian packman Marika Navula - weighing in at over 20 stones - was a late choice and certainly made his weight felt in more ways than one. He turned in a powerhouse performance and then won the team's Grand National Sweep. Brian Gardner, skipper Andy Walsh and Andy Sheehan also shone as the Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three side's tries were scored by Gardner and Navula with Phil Evans landing a penalty and two conversions. Collegiate deserved their Dave Anguin try with Chris Jones kicking two penalties and Dave McNamara one.

Wayne Osborne’s last minute try capped a tremendous triumph for him and brother Phil.

Phil scored two tries and Wayne added two penalties to secure all the points for the Cheshire/ South Lancashire Division Three side.
